Dr. Whelen was born and raised in the Piedmont area of North Carolina where his appreciation for the outdoors and an active lifestyle began. After moving to Florida during high school, he attended the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He then completed his doctorate at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.

Dr. Whelen has expanded this appetite for knowledge and advanced dental treatments as he pursues his pathway of continuing education. He completed advanced training in surgical extractions, platelet-rich plasma therapy, and bone grafting techniques. He also graduated the Digital Smile Design Residency with Dr. Christian Coachman and is a member of the renowned Spear Academy. Dr. Whelen has also completed over 300 hours of education in Implant Dentistry studying under Dr. Jack Piermatti and Dr. Shanker Iyer at the American Academy of Implant Dentistry Maxi Course. He followed this thorough didactic training in Sao Paulo, Brazil where he performed hospital-based, complex implant surgeries under the tutelage of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Furthermore, he is a licensed provider for LANAP (“laser gum surgery”), a unique and wonderful alternative to traditional techniques to treat advanced gum and bone disease. Dr. Whelen is also a certified Invisalign provider who loves to see new smiles!
