Oral conscious, or sedation dentistry, allows us to use medication that helps our patients relax before, during, and after dental procedures. There are two levels of sedation that are typically provided to our patients: minimal sedation, which is a simple relaxer; and moderate (conscious) sedation, wherein you will not recall much of the procedure and you may slur your words. Along with your requested sedation, a local anesthetic is usually needed for most procedures.

Sedation dentistry is generally used for people who suffer from significant fear or anxiety that prevents them from visiting the dentist, however, it may also be applicable to people who suffer from the following:

Suffer from a low pain threshold.
Fidgit or squirm while in the dentist’s chair.
Have a sensitive gag reflex.
Need a large amount of dental work completed.

Sedation dentistry has allowed many people to get the dental care they need that they otherwise would not have received for fear of the dentist. Our dentists are trained to administer and monitor sedation. We are determined to help every patient become as comfortable and relaxed as possible using established methods and protocols. Oral sedation allows us to effectively treat a growing number of patients who previously would not have visited the dentist, putting their oral health at greater risk.
